New York's QB Daniel Jones suffered another injury, and this one could potentially be serious.
Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas, against the Raiders, Jones suffered what could possibly be a significant knee injury in the first half of his first game back from a neck injury that had sidelined him the previous three weeks.
On the first play of the second quarter at Allegiant Stadium, Jones' right knee appeared to buckle underneath him and he immediately collapsed to the turf, before walking off under his own power, into the blue medical tent, and out of the game.
One play earlier, Jones seemed to be a bit banged up after taking a sack.
Jones was then replaced by backup third-string quarterback Michael DeVito, who came on in relief of Tyrod Taylor in Week 8 against the New York Jets when Taylor suffered a rib injury that sent him to the hospital. In that contest, DeVito passed for negative one yard.
This has been an injury-riddled campaign for Jones, who the Giants signed to a four-year contract worth $160 million this past offseason. Jones has appeared in six games so far during the 2023 regular season, passing for a meager 884 yards with two passing touchdowns to six interceptions, and a career-low 71.7 passer rating.
That wasn't the kind of production that the Giants had hoped for when they committed significant resources to their 2019 first-round draft pick.
If Jones' knee injury winds up being significant, and potentially season-ending, it seems entirely possible that general manager Joe Schoen, head coach Brian Daboll, and the Giants could take a hard look at the top prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft class. That especially becomes increasingly likely if the losses continue to pile up for the Giants, who entered Sunday's action at 2-6 and in the NFC East basement.
Following Jones' departure from Sunday's game, the Giants trailed the Raiders 21-0.
