Top Giants Coaches Turning On Each Other, Major Shakeup Expected

The New York Giants have transformed from surprise playoff team in 2022 to Team Turmoil in 2023.

While part of the Giants' backslide into the NFC East basement, as one of the least competitive teams in football, can be blamed on the barrage of injuries New York has been forced to overcome this season — including Daniel Jones' season coming to a premature end, strife on the coaching staff is reaching a crescendo.

According to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, there's even a chance that Brian Daboll could replace one — or all three, of his top coordinators before season's end.

"It's kind of interesting what's happened there," Glazer said, during his weekly appearance on FOX NFL Sunday. "Brian Daboll, great offensive coach, Wink Martindale, great defensive coach, these guys are in a bad place. Bad place, to the point that I don't see them continuing their relationship after the season, maybe not even during the season. There could be a mutual parting of the ways."

Last season, the hyper-aggressive blitz-oriented scheme that Martindale installed in the Giants' offense was a driving force behind New York snapping an 11-season playoff drought. However, this season has seen defensive team captain Xavier McKinney publicly criticizing the coaching staff, and a major regression from Martindale's unit.

"When you talk to people inside the organization," Glazer continued. "You can feel it. And, it's just getting worse. It's odd how quickly it's happened, considering how much success they shared together last season."

The Giants finished the 2022 campaign 9-7-1, prior to beating the Minnesota Vikings in the  NFC Wild Card and ultimately falling to the eventual NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round. However, this season has been a dramatically different story, as New York begins Week 11 at just 3-8.

According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, there even seemed to be some signs of trouble brewing on the sideline prior to Sunday afternoon's game against the new England Patriots.

"Here on the Giants sideline in wake of that report: Tim McDonnell spoke with Wink Martindale," Leonard tweeted from MetLife Stadium. "Then McDonnell filled in John Mara. Then Mara addressed both Schoen and Daboll at the 45 yard line.here on the Giants sideline in wake of that report: Tim McDonnell spoke with Wink Martindale. Then McDonnell filled in John Mara. As the Giants continue to struggle, it is fair to question whether Daboll himself is on the hot-seat.

After all, his predecessors; Joe Judge, Pat Shurmer, and Ben McAdoo all were relieved of their duties less than two years into their tenures as Giants head coach.

Regardless, it would seem that underlying tensions could spur major changes on the Giants' coaching staff in the near future.
