Head coach Brian Daboll announced on Monday that Russell Wilson will remain the starting quarterback heading into a Week 2 game against the Dallas Cowboys. The former Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos starter will get another opportunity to show that he can be the guy moving forward for the rest of the season.

Daboll faced questions about Wilson's status as the starter after Sunday's loss to the Commanders. This will be a theme this season considering that the Giants used a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select quarterback Jaxson Dart.

The rookie delivered big plays during the preseason. He completed 32 of 47 passes for 372 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

"Yeah, Russ...I told you guys before, Russ was our quarterback," Daboll said on Sunday. "I think what you do with your backup quarterback and your third quarterback is make sure you have enough packages in (because) if they go in the game, that it's stuff that they feel comfortable with.

"So, we will see where we're at. Again, just overall, not good enough."

The veteran signal-caller posted pedestrian stats as he completed 17 of 27 attempted passes for 168 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Wilson took two sacks and eight quarterback hits, and he registered 33 yards on four rushing attempts as the offense generated a mere 231 yards and six points.

"This game isn't on Russell Wilson," Daboll said. "It's not on Russell Wilson. Want to make that clear. I have confidence in Russell; we got to do a better job all the way around."

Despite Daboll reiterating that Wilson is the team's starter, the questions will continue regarding the rookie backup quarterback. Will Dart take over this season, or will he see in-game action as long as Wilson remains the starter?

Giants fans thought that they might see Dart at some point in the game, especially after NFL Network reported that the team had prepared a package of plays for the rookie. This did not happen as Wilson took all of the snaps under center.

However, this will remain a storyline in the coming weeks as the Giants take on a difficult stretch of games against the Cowboys, Chiefs, and Chargers.
