Tony Romo catches NFL fans off guard with 'DTF' comment

Tony Romo has gone viral numerous times since joining CBS Sports as a booth analyst. The most recent example stands alone as one of the wildest moments.

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback took a moment during last weekend's game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots to heap some praise on Mike Vrabel's defense. He just chose an unexpected method for delivering his message.

"Fundamentally sound," Romo said. "This team is 'DTF,' Jim. Patriots - Details, Toughness, and they Finish."

Understandably, many people did not know how to react to Romo describing the Patriots in such a manner. After all, DTF means something wildly different in different areas of life.

In fact, none of the Urban Dictionary entries mention football at all. One mentions the video game "Fortnite," but it certainly does not mention the Dallas Cowboys.

Play-by-play Jim Nantz also did not expect to hear Romo talk about the Patriots defense this way. He quickly jumped in with a little comment about the team and its head coach.

"That sounds very close to what Vrabel tells them, too," Nantz said. "I think the 'T' might be Technique for him, but it's all good."

DTF comments aside, Romo has enjoyed several interesting moments in the booth. These have prompted content creators to make YouTube compilations featuring his play call predictions and passionate reactions to big plays.

Early in Romo's broadcasting career, he stunned fans by predicting the directions of run plays and saying exactly how quarterbacks would burn precious seconds off of the clock before halftime. He also had some fun analyzing a cat's gait as it ran across the football field.

One moment, in particular, featured Romo highlighting Philadelphia Eagles long snapper Rick Lovato. He joked that the special teams ace was the husband of Demi Lovato. Another moment featured the former quarterback trying to channel the late John Madden while describing a play.
