Sugar Land (Texas) police took Peterson, who spent the majority of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings, into custody on Sunday morning. KHOU 11 reports this incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. local time.

Jail records show that the police booked Peterson on charges of driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon. No further details are available about the arrest as this remains an active investigation.

This marks the second DWI arrest for Peterson, 40. Back in April, police in Minnesota pulled Peterson over around 3:20 a.m. after he reportedly traveled 83 mph in a 55 mph zone. He blew a .14 on the breathalyzer, putting him over the state legal limit of .08.

Peterson had appeared at U.S. Bank Stadium earlier in the evening as a featured guest for the Minnesota Vikings NFL Draft party.

A native of Palestine, Texas, Peterson spent his college career at the University of Oklahoma. He then joined the Minnesota Vikings as the seventh overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.

The Texas native delivered significant success to the Vikings. He spent 10 years with the team and rushed for more than 11,700 yards and 97 touchdowns. He won Rookie of the Year, earned First Team All-Pro honors four times, and earned seven trips to the Pro Bowl.

Peterson also led the NFL in rushing three times, including the 2012 season when he joined the 2,000-yard club and won NFL MVP. His 2,097 rushing yards are the second-most in a single NFL season, trailing only Eric Dickerson's 2,105 yards.

"All Day" headed to new teams after the 2016 season, and he bounced around the league between 2017 and 2021.

He played for the New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Commanders, Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks, and Tennessee Titans while rushing for a combined 3,171 yards and 23 touchdowns. His best season in this stretch was 2018 when he rushed for more than 1,000 yards for the Commanders.
