The Seattle Seahawks suffered heavy losses on the offensive line in Week 1, so they decided to add one of the oldest veteran offensive tackles in the NFL in 41-year-old Jason Peters.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted on Tuesday, September 12 that the Seahawks are signing Peters, presumably to a one-year deal given his age.

Peters went undrafted back in 2004, but has been a mainstay in the league, most notably with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2009 through 2020. During his nearly 20 years in the league, Peters has been a Super Bowl champion, a two-time first-team All-Pro, a four-time second-team All-Pro, and a nine-time Pro Bowl selection. At 41 years old, Peters has established himself as one of the greatest undrafted free agents in NFL history.
The Seahawks have a very sudden need for help at offensive tackle after their loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Head coach Pete Carroll told reporters after the game that left tackle Charles Cross is dealing with a sprained toe, while right tackle Abraham Lucas had his knee "act up" during the game.
Neither injury sounds like a long-term issue, at least according to Carroll. However, if either were to miss significant time, it would leave massive holes on Seattle's offensive line.
That's where Peters comes in. While he isn't the same player that he used to be, Peters has filled in admirably for both the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys over the last two seasons. According to Pro Football Focus, he's earned an overall grade of 77.5 in 2021 and a 70.2 grade this past season.
It's unclear how much the Seahawks will need to lean on Peters this season, but even at 41 years old, it looks like the veteran offensive tackle still has something left in the tank, even if he's nearing the end of his NFL career.
