NFL Draft analyst with no front office experience has emerged as a candidate for the vacant Redskins GM gig

The Redskins could make a bold move out of this.

The Washington Redskins fired general manager Scot McCloughlan after only two seasons, and the top candidate to replace him has never served as a GM in the NFL.

According to Adam Schefter and Field Yates, the Redskins are targeting NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock as their next GM.

Mayock played in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants for two seasons, and he played college football at Boston College. He has been a draft analyst since 2005, and he was previously a college football analyst.

Mayock also interviewed for the Oakland Raiders personnel job several years ago.

Hiring a GM with no experience is risky, but the Redskins wouldn't be the first team to do it this offseason. The San Francisco 49ers hired John Lynch earlier this year, and Lynch had no previous experience as a GM.
