NFL Fines Falcons, Defensive Coordinator Jeff Ulbrich Over His Son’s Draft Day Prank Call On Shedeur Sanders

During the 2025 NFL Draft QB prospect Shedeur Sanders received a call in the second round, which turned out to be a prank call from a couple of college kids impersonating Saints GM Mickey Loomis.

That is, considering Sanders' draft slide (5th round, 140th pick- Cleveland Browns), the prank callers have received a lot of backlash.

When this first happened, Shedeur was seen on a video (posted by Deion Sanders Jr.'s Well Off Media company) reacting to the call.

"Nobody has that number but coaches, strictly for that reason," Shedeur said afterwards. "Why get mad? They want you to have a certain type of reaction to it. They want you to feel bad. But I ain't trippin'."

As for how someone got the private number, Jax Ulbrich, the son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator, Jeff Ulbrich, reportedly took the number off of his dad's iPad.

That is, Commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL is not taking this matter lightly, as the data leak has resulted in a $250,000 fine for the organization and a $100,000 fine for Ulbrich.

Per the NFL, this is handed down for "failing to prevent the disclosure of confidential information distributed to the club in advance of the NFL draft."

While addressing the media at a news conference, coach Ulbrich said, "My actions of not protecting confidential data were inexcusable. My son's actions were absolutely inexcusable, and for that we are both deeply sorry."

Afterwards Ulbrich brought up that he contacted former Hall of Fame Falcons player Deion Sanders (No. 5 overall pick in 1989 Draft) and his family. He mentioned that they were "amazingly gracious... more gracious than they needed to be in a moment like this."

Shedeur said he never had any ill-feelings, as he was asked by reporters about this situation after being drafted.

"I think, of course, it is childish. Of course," the former Colorado quarterback said. "I feel like it was a childish act, but everybody does childish things here and there."

Ulbrich's 21-year-old son Jax admitted to the prank call and apologized in an Instagram post Sunday.

"I'm so sorry I took away from your moment, it was selfish and childish," he wrote in an Instagram post. "I could never imagine getting ready to celebrate one of the greatest moments of your life and I made a terrible mistake and messed with that moment. Thank you for accepting my call earlier today, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me."
