NFL goes way over the top, drops the hammer on Chiefs for allegedly breaking the rules

The league hit them where it hurts.

In the latest version of the NFL taking its power way too far, the league discovered the Kansas City Chiefs had allegedly made contact with wide receiver Jeremy Maclin before he inked an agreement to leave the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015.

As a response, the league handed down a whopping $350,000 combined in fines and a took two draft picks (this year's third-round pick and next year's seventh.

According to ESPN, this is the most severely a team has been punished for tampering since 1980.

The NFL fined the New England Patriots $1 million and took a first- and fourth-round draft pick as a result of DeflateGate, making this instance the second time the NFL has hit a team hard for breaking the rules in a year.

NFL owners reportedly were irked with the way the league handled DeflateGate, and this instance likely won't ease any remaining tension.
