Jaguars lose two starters for Monday Night Football

The Jacksonville Jaguars will enter Monday night's game against the Buffalo Bills without two key members of the roster.

Tight end Evan Engram will miss his second consecutive game due to a hamstring injury. Safety Darnell Savage will also miss his second consecutive game due to a quadriceps injury.

"Evan, probably not going to make it," head coach Doug Pederson told media members during his Saturday press conference. "He tried this week, it's just not there yet. So hopefully, next week, we'll see.

"Darnell, we'll give him one more day (Saturday) and see if he can push through it. Don't want to risk anything further."

Savage joined the Jaguars during the offseason, signing a three-year, $21.8 million deal. He appeared in the Week 1 loss to the Dolphins and recorded two passes defensed. Savage then sustained the injury during practice leading up to Week 2's loss to the Browns.

With Savage out for another game, the Jaguars have elevated cornerback Christian Braswell from the practice squad.

Engram, a two-time Pro Bowl player, joined the Jaguars ahead of the 2022 season. He delivered 766 yards and four touchdowns in his first season, which paved the way for a three-year deal worth $41.25 million.

Engram's second season with the Jaguars was better than the first as he posted a career-best 114 yards and 963 yards. He scored another four touchdowns and earned his second Pro Bowl nomination.

The veteran tight end appeared in the opening game of the season. He caught one pass for five yards. Engram then sustained his hamstring injury during warmups for the Week 2 game against the Browns.

Second-year pro Brenton Strange stepped into action during the loss to the Browns. He caught three passes on six targets for 65 yards while taking over as the starting tight end. He will likely fill this role once again as the Jaguars try to win their first game of the season.

The Buffalo Bills have also also ruled out two players ahead of Monday's against against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cornerback Taron Johnson and linebacker Terrel Bernard will both miss the game as the Bills try to reach 3-0 on the season.
