According to jail records, Cooper was taken into custody Thursday night in Colorado and booked into the Douglas County Jail. The latest arrest comes days after the 28-year-old was arrested following an alleged domestic dispute involving his girlfriend.

Authorities have now added several charges, including two domestic violence-related counts, harassment based on repeated phone calls and violating a protective order. The new allegations come on top of domestic violence and criminal mischief charges that were previously filed.

The situation stems from an incident that allegedly took place on June 4.

According to reports, Cooper and the woman involved provided differing accounts of what occurred during the dispute. Cooper reportedly told police the argument began after a disagreement involving allegations of infidelity and that he struggled with the woman after she took his phone.

The woman, meanwhile, accused Cooper of physically assaulting her during the altercation.

Court proceedings related to the original case began earlier this week, with Cooper entering a plea of not guilty.

The Broncos have allowed Cooper to continue participating in team activities while the matter unfolds, though the organization issued a statement after learning of the latest arrest.

"We are disappointed to learn of Jonathon Cooper's arrest on Thursday and continue to review this matter," the team said.

Cooper emerged as one of Denver's top defensive players in recent seasons and was expected to play a major role again in 2026.
