Flag football will make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, and NFL players have been cleared to participate.

More than 200 players have reportedly expressed interest, although established flag football stars will also compete for the 10 available Team USA roster spots. Here are four notable names who want a shot at Olympic gold.
1. Joe Burrow
Burrow made his interest clear while participating in the 2026 Fanatics Flag Football Classic.
"I've always wanted to play in the Olympics," the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback said. "I've never necessarily played an Olympic sport before, so when this got announced, I was very excited."
Burrow would bring accuracy, anticipation and some valuable flag football experience from the Fanatics event.
2. Josh Allen
Allen told NBC in 2026 that he would "sign up tomorrow" for an opportunity to represent Team USA.
The Buffalo Bills quarterback acknowledged that flag football is substantially different from the NFL game, but his arm strength and ability as a runner would make him an intriguing candidate.
3. Tyreek Hill
Hill began campaigning for a spot shortly after flag football was added to the Olympic program.
The speedy receiver discussed assembling an Olympic "super team" on his podcast and has spoken with Team USA quarterback Darrell Doucette about learning the nuances of the sport. Hill's quickness would seemingly translate well to the five-on-five format.
4. Robert Griffin III
Griffin went beyond merely expressing interest. The former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner announced that he intended to pursue a place on Team USA and participated in the national program's 2026 selection process.
Griffin later withdrew from that cycle while focusing on his broadcasting career, leaving his Olympic pursuit uncertain. Still, he will be 38 when the Los Angeles Games begin and remains one of the most fascinating former NFL players connected to the competition.
