NFL Pro Bowler Comments on Bryce Young Benching

Micah Parsons offered his opinion on a recent episode of his podcast after learning that the Carolina Panthers were benching sophomore quarterback Bryce Young.

Micah Parsons says young QBs need better "assets"

On Tuesday the Cowboys DE spoke about the announcement on 'The Edge' alluding to the fact that there's "no talent" surrounding QBs like Young.

"I don't think he's getting a fair shake at this," the Cowboys DE began. "I'm noticing this a lot, especially with these young quarterbacks.

"I just think we're expecting QBs to come into this league and kinda be like 'right now', without no talent, without no real assets around them and say 'hey, it's time to be good right now.'"

The Carolina Panthers decided to bench quarterback Bryce Young just two weeks into the new NFL season. Young has been Carolina's starting passer since they selected him first overall in last year's draft. He had a less than impressive rookie campaign, only winning two of the 16 games that he started in. Carolina has already lost its first two games of this season against the Chargers and the Saints.

Carolina's decision came by surprise

After Sunday's loss to Los Angeles, the Panthers head coach Dave Canales said he had no intention of changing around quarterbacks. The next day he announced that after careful consideration and consultation the best move was to start Andy Dalton in their next matchup.

"Ultimately, this comes on me, and my No. 1 responsibility is to help the Panthers win," Canales told reporters on Monday. "And so this move, I believe, puts us in the best chance to do that this week."

The decision seemingly came as a shock to many across the league, including Bryce Young. The second year QB and his camp were reportedly "very shocked" to learn about the benching according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

"It came out of nowhere," a source said, according to Schultz.

Young's time in the NFL has been disappointing to say the least. He threw 11 touchdown passes to 10 interceptions as a rookie while averaging only 5.5 yards per attempt. He had a QB rating of 73.7 last season and is dead last in efficiency (33rd) this year. As for his contributions to the Panthers, the last time the team held a lead in an NFL game was November of 2023.
