An official made unquestionably the worst call in the history of football during Lions-Bears

One of the NFL's most controversial officials is at it again

Considering he's seen as one of the NFL's most contentious officials, Jeff Triplette's call on the wrong team during the Chicago Bears-Detroit Lions game Sunday didn't do much for his image.

Triplette called an illegal hands to the face penalty on Lions center Graham Glasgow in the second quarter that wiped away a 14-yard gain by running back Dwayne Washington. Problem is, the player who committed the infraction was Bears defensive lineman Eddie Goldman, who Glasgow was locked up with on the play.

It wasn't a drive killer and ended up being of little consequence as Detroit scored several plays later, but Triplette called the penalty on the wrong side. And that's indicative of an absent mind, not a good quality for an NFL official.

Triplette's been on the wrong side of some really dubious stuff before. There's the infamous BenJarvus Green-Ellis play in 2013, where he ruled the Bengals running back was never touched during a play against the Colts when he actually was, resulting in a touchdown, the call during the Giants-Redskins game, also in 2013, when he gave Robert Griffin III a first down on a play where was a full yard short, and the play during the Packers-Cowboys game in 2009 when he called timeout to review a fumble that per NFL rules was not reviewable.

Add this one to the list.
