Jets Officially Announce They're Parting Ways With Aaron Rodgers

The New York Jets have officially announced they are parting ways with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, confirming the decision after reports emerged late last week. Jets head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey issued a joint statement detailing the decision, revealing that they had met with Rodgers last week to inform him that the team would be moving in a different direction at quarterback for the 2025 season.

"Last week we met with Aaron and shared that our intention was to move in a different direction at quarterback," Glenn and Mougey said in the statement. "It was important to have this discussion now to provide clarity and enable each of us the proper time to plan for our respective futures. We want to thank him for the leadership, passion, and dedication he brought to the organization and wish him success moving forward."

Jets owner Woody Johnson also expressed his gratitude for Rodgers' brief time with the team.

"I personally want to thank Aaron for his time at the New York Jets," Johnson said. "His arrival in 2023 was met with unbridled excitement and I will forever be grateful that he chose to join us to continue his Hall of Fame career.

"From day one, he embodied all that it meant to be a New York Jet, embraced our fans, and immersed himself in our city. That is what I will remember most when I look back at his time here. He will always be welcome, and I wish him only the best in whatever he chooses to do next."

Rodgers, 41, joined the Jets with high hopes for the 2023 NFL season, but his tenure was marred by injury. He played just four offensive snaps in the team's season opener against the Buffalo Bills before suffering a torn Achilles. However, Rodgers made a return in 2024, starting all 17 games for the Jets. Despite his resilience, the team finished with a disappointing 5-12 record.

In 2024, Rodgers completed 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Jets are expected to release him with a post-June 1 designation, which would allow them to spread out his cap hit over multiple years.

As Rodgers prepares for the next chapter of his career, the Pittsburgh Steelers are currently the favorites to land the veteran quarterback, with the Las Vegas Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans, and Indianapolis Colts among the other potential suitors. The Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants are also in the mix, according to betting odds.
