The Detroit Lions didn't waste much time finding Teddy Bridgewater's replacement. Detroit officially signed veteran NFL quarterback Josh Dobbs on Monday, one day after Bridgewater abruptly retired during training camp.

Dobbs now slides into the No. 2 quarterback role behind Jared Goff, with undrafted rookie Luke Altmyer also on the roster. Defensive tackle Aidan Keanaaina was placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move.
It's actually a reunion for Dobbs and the Lions.
The 31-year-old previously spent time on Detroit's practice squad in 2022 before continuing a well-traveled NFL career that has included stops with several teams.

Dobbs spent last season backing up Drake Maye with the New England Patriots, appearing in four games. He has also made starts for the Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers.
The Lions suddenly needed another experienced quarterback after Bridgewater informed the team that he was stepping away from football.
Bridgewater, 33, had signed with Detroit in March for what was supposed to be his third stint with the organization. Instead, he missed two practices for an undisclosed reason before deciding to retire for the second time in three years.
Dobbs now gets the job Bridgewater left behind.
The veteran gives Detroit an experienced option behind Goff while Altmyer continues his development entering his first NFL season.
