Odell Beckham Jr. slams MetLife turf after Malik Nabers injury

Another Sunday at MetLife. Another star lost to the turf. An MRI confirmed Monday that Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers tore his ACL, ending his NFL season and reigniting a familiar firestorm over the surface in East Rutherford. The outrage was swift, with Odell Beckham Jr. — who knows the field's dangers firsthand — leading the chorus.

Beckham fractured his ankle at MetLife in 2017 and has torn his ACL twice since, all on artificial turf. After Nabers went down, OBJ posted a heartfelt and pointed plea to the league on X.

"Dear @NFL, I mean this with the [utmost] love and respect," Beckham wrote. "We (The NFL) take all the precautions in the world with EVERYTHING else when it comes to players 'health' and 'safety.' PLZ. PLZ. PLZ. GET RID OF THE TURF. Thank you in advance."

Nabers suffered the injury in the second quarter of Sunday's 21-18 win over the Chargers while leaping for a deep ball from rookie Jaxson Dart. He planted his right leg, jumped, and immediately grabbed his knee. Beckham, watching from afar, tweeted, "My heart hurts for ya 1!!!!"

MetLife has been under fire for years, with a long list of star players — including Wan'Dale Robinson, Aaron Rodgers, and Nick Bosa — going down on its surface. A new FieldTurf CORE system installed in 2023 was supposed to make things safer. So far, the results say otherwise.

"Respect and u kno I loveeeee the giants," Beckham added, "but DeathLife has taken too many talented players away from the game."

Nabers' second year ends with 18 catches, 271 yards, and two touchdowns.
