The NFL coaching carousel has officially spun out of control.

What started as a manageable number has ballooned into something far bigger. Nearly a third of the league is now looking for a head coach, with 23 teams currently employed and nine vacancies open — a stunning level of turnover for a league that once prized stability.
And sitting at the center of it all is the most intriguing opening on the board.
The Pittsburgh Steelers.
This is not just another job. It's the job. The Steelers don't cycle through coaches, don't panic, and don't chase trends. They build slowly, commit fully, and give their head coach real authority. When a vacancy opens in Pittsburgh, it happens once in a generation — and everyone in football notices.
The appeal is obvious. A national fan base. A historic brand. An organization that still believes culture matters. Coaches know they won't be looking over their shoulder after one bad season. They know patience exists here. As in, real patience, not the press-conference kind.
That's why this search won't be limited to the usual suspects. NFL coordinators will line up. Former head coaches will circle back. College coaches will listen, even if they swear publicly that they aren't interested. And yes, there may be sitting NFL head coaches who quietly wonder if this is the rare move worth making.
The Steelers have issues to solve, starting with the quarterback and a playoff drought that has grown uncomfortable. But they also have something most franchises don't — credibility.
In a league defined by churn, Pittsburgh still represents permanence.
That makes this opening different. And it makes this search one that the entire NFL will be watching.
