Mortensen, who's been on leave for seven months since being diagnosed with throat cancer, hopes to return to a few broadcasts by the end of the year according to a release from ESPN.
"The Stage IV throat (oropharyngel) cancer that was diagnosed in early January and treated with intensive chemotherapy and radiation has been virtually reduced to zero detection of the disease through the latest scans and exams." Mortensen wrote.

Mortensen says he has no timetable on when he'll return this season and will only work on a limited basis. He also thanked ESPN for supporting him during his treatments.
His focus will now shift from chemotherapy and radiation—-which has contributed to significant weight loss—-to recovery.
