Panthers Say They Have No Plans To Trade Benched QB Bryce Young

Bryce Young has been sent to the bench as the Carolina Panthers' quarterback, and will now serve as a backup to the aging Andy Dalton. But that doesn't mean the Panthers intend to rid themselves of the young Young altogether.

In fact, Carolina coach Dave Canales said that Young remains an important part of the team's plans.

"Absolutely," Canales told reporters.

Now, keep in mind that Young is 0-2 this season and 2-16 overall with Carolina. But as for trading him? Yeah, forget it.

"That's not something we're really considering," Canales added. "We have a great situation with our quarterbacks right now with guys that have experience. We love where we are at, and it's all hands on deck."

The Panthers square off with the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Young, 23, is also getting the support of his teammates.

"It's definitely not over," said running back Miles Sanders, via David Newton of ESPN. "Definitely. He's smart. He's fast. He's the first one in the building, the last one out. It's definitely not over.

"This is his home, and he's gonna get another shot."

As for Dalton, 36, he has no choice but to take the opportunity and try to run with it.

"I'm really excited for this opportunity," Dalton told reporters, via the team website. "When I came here, I wasn't sure if I was going to get another opportunity to start again. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm excited about what's ahead.

"It's a tough situation. I've been on both sides of it and it's hard for everybody. But for me, I'm looking forward to it."

The Panthers signed Dalton in 2023 to help Young develop.

"[F]rom the moment I got here, I was going to do everything I could to help Bryce. And to try to help this team," Dalton said. "So, I was giving my input on certain things. I was able to see it from my point of view and kind of share that. But moving forward, it's like I get a different opportunity to affect the game."

"Hopefully, our friendship and everything that we've built from the moment he got here will stay, and I know it will. It's one of those things, I think he even said it in his press conference after the game, in hard times, your true colors show. For him, I feel like he's going to come out and be the same person. But I feel for the whole situation. It's not fun for anybody. Just got to keep moving forward."
