The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship Game, which means in a six-year span, Patrick Mahomes and the team will be making their fifth appearance in the Super Bowl.

That is to say, despite being 4-1 vs. the Chiefs in the regular season, Josh Allen has been on the losing side in each of their last four playoff matchups.

In view of Allen being the first quarterback to lose four NFL playoff starts vs. one QB (Patrick Mahomes), the Kansas City quarterback seemed remorseful for preventing his buddy from ever reaching the big game.
"I'm sorry it had to be us," Mahomes said after the victory over Allen. "I always feel for him... he's a great player, an amazing competitor and an awesome dude who I respect so much. I'm sorry it had to be us."
When looking at the previous matchups, the Bills lost the 2021 AFC title game (38-24), the 2022 AFC divisional game (42-36 OT), 2024 AFC divisional game (27-24), and now the 2025 AFC title game (32-29).
Ultimately, the performances by both quarterbacks have been remotely similar in their matchups vs. each other. In four head-to-head playoff games, Patrick Mahomes has thrown for 1,256 yards and 10 touchdowns/0 interceptions; Josh Allen has thrown 1,267 yards for 11 touchdowns/1 interception.
The Chiefs have now advanced to the Super Bowl LIX (59), where they will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans on February 9. To note this will be a rematch of Super Bowl LVII (57), when the Chiefs won 38-35.
Kansas City is in search of a three-peat, which hasn't been done in NFL history.
