Mike Vrabel didn't dance around the question Sunday. He benched one of his best players, and he owned it.

The Patriots head coach explained after New England's 32-13 win over Cleveland that defensive tackle Christian Barmore sat out the entire first quarter for disciplinary reasons.
"I just had to make a decision. My job's to protect the team," Vrabel told NFL reporters, via Boston Sports Journal's Greg Bedard. "When there are actions that I don't feel are commensurate with what we want to do here, I gotta make a decision. And we move on."
Vrabel didn't offer specifics, but multiple reports suggested the "infraction" was relatively minor. Whatever it was, Barmore responded the right way, finishing the game with one tackle and four quarterback pressures in 30 snaps.
The two appeared to patch things up quickly. Cameras caught Vrabel and Barmore sharing a hug in the tunnel after the win, and Vrabel said Monday on The Greg Hill Show that there's "no issue moving forward."
"Just like everything else, we've addressed it and moved on," Vrabel said. "That's how we have to operate."

Barmore, who signed a four-year, $84 million extension last spring, has been one of New England's defensive anchors this season.
And while Vrabel clearly wanted to send a message, it looks like it landed with no drama, no divide, and just business as usual for the Patriots heading into their matchup with Atlanta.
