Aaron Hernandez gunned down two men because he interpreted a spilled drink as a sign of disrespect, prosecutors claimed in the opening statement of his murder trial.

Hernandez, the former football star with the Florida Gators and then the New England Patriots, is on trial in the killings of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, who were gunned down in the early morning hours of July 16, 2012 as they sat in their car at a stoplight.
The details of the court testimony were reported by the Associated Press and appeared in the Bristol Press.

Prosecutor Patrick Haggan told the jury Hernandez was at a Boston club with his friend, Alexander Bradley, when de Abreu accidentally bumped into Hernandez while dancing, and Hernandez spilled his drink.
Seven months after the shooting at the stoplight, Haggan told the jury that Hernandez shot Bradley in the head at point-blank range, and Bradley lost an eye. Bradley is now testifying against Hernandez.
However, Hernandez's defense team, led by Jose Baez - known for winning an acquittal for Casey Anthony, who was charged with killing her daughter - says his client is innocent. He told the jury that Bradley killed the two men, and labeled him a drug dealer with a violent criminal history.
Hernandez is already serving life in prison without parole for killing Odin Lloyd.
