According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, Russell Wilson is a "name to watch" after the Raiders hired Carroll. Howe cited a source while saying that the former Seahawks duo have mended fences.

The insider noted that Wilson could be a stopgap option as the Raiders develop their long-term answer at the position.

Wilson and Carroll have an extensive history working together in the NFC West. Carroll was the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks when the team used a third-round pick to select Wilson in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Matt Flynn was set to be the starting quarterback during the 2012 season after signing a three-year, $26 million contract. However, Wilson took the starting job during training camp and preseason, which served as a testament to Carroll's mantra of "Always compete."

Wilson remained the starting quarterback of the Seahawks for 10 seasons. He posted a win-loss record of 104-53-1 while working with Carroll, and he led the Seahawks to the Super Bowl in consecutive seasons. One of these trips was a dominant win over the Broncos.

The partnership led to great success on the field, but it did not last. The Seahawks suddenly traded Wilson to the Broncos ahead of the 2022 season and moved forward without him.

The Athletic reported in 2023 that the split was due to a power struggle between Wilson, Carroll, and GM John Schneider. However, the quarterback refuted the report on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Wilson spent two seasons with the Broncos and went 11-19 as a starter. He spent last season with the Steelers and led the team to the playoffs after taking over for Justin Fields. Now, he is set to be an unrestricted free agent.

The Super Bowl-winning quarterback is free to sign with any team once free agency begins at 4 p.m. ET on March 12. Will this team be the Raiders? That answer remains unclear, but at least one insider has mentioned this outcome.
