The AFC North team is acquiring wide receiver Diontae Johnson in a trade with the Carolina Panthers, per NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.

The compensation involves draft picks. The Ravens will send a fifth-round pick to the Panthers in exchange for Johnson and a sixth-round pick.

Johnson has suited up for seven games this season while serving as the top option in a struggling passing attack. He has caught 30 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns. His best performance came against the Raiders as he caught eight passes from Andy Dalton. Johnson put up 122 yards and a score as the Panthers won their first game of the season.

The Ravens are quite familiar with Johnson, who was only in his first season with the Panthers. Johnson previously spent five seasons with the rival Steelers after entering the league as a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Ravens and Steelers play twice during the regular season, so Johnson's new team had plenty of opportunities to see him in action.

The Toledo standout produced solid stats during his time in the Black and Gold. He posted 680 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie and then boosted those numbers to 923 yards and seven touchdowns in his second season.

The 2021 season was Johnson's best as a pro. He earned a trip to the Pro Bowl after catching 107 passes for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns. The Steelers went 9-6-1 and made it to the playoffs.

Johnson's season included a two-touchdown, 105-yard performance against the Ravens in Week 12.

He will now don the purple for the rest of the NFL season while bolstering the passing attack. Quarterback Lamar Jackson has two standout tight ends — Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews — working the middle of the field.

Jackson has Zay Flowers, Nelson Agholor, and Rashod Bateman as his top wide receivers. Johnson will join this group while challenging for a starting spot with reliable hands.
