It appears that ex-Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin has lost another TV gig. First ESPN, and now, the NFL Network.
At least, that's the word from Ryan Glasspiegel, who reports that the network will not renew Irvin's contract.
This is all part of large cuts and changes being made at the NFL Network, it seems.
"Irvin, 58, was a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Cowboys, and was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007," Glasspiegel wrote. "He had been an analyst at NFL Network since 2009, and has played a major role in the Sunday football pregame show, GameDay Morning."
Irvin was suspended by NFL Network briefly, after being accused of making lewd comments to a woman in a hotel lobby. He vehemently denied those accusations and even filed a lawsuit against the Marriott hotel. (The woman worked at the hotel.)
Irvin was suspended by the network, but reinstated after settling the suit against Marriott.
He is one of several being let go amid NFL Network changes. Last month, it was revealed that Melissa Stark, Andrew Siciliano, James Palmer and Will Selva also will no longer be with the network.
"As is normal course of business this time of year, we are evaluating our talent roster for the upcoming 2024 season and beyond," NFL Network spokesperson Alex Riethmiller told The Athletic.
"That process results in renewals, non-renewals and additions to our talent lineup depending on programming needs. To those departing talent, we give our sincere thanks and appreciation for their hard work and contributions to NFL Media."
