Robert Griffin III Reacts To Being Fired From ESPN

Former Washington Redskins quarterback and football analyst Robert Griffin III was fired from his job at ESPN Thursday.

Notably, Griffin III had already been working at ESPN for three years, and had two left on his contract, but as the network was facing cutbacks due to financial reasons, he is now unemployed.

RG III responded to the news by posting a clip from the movie "Friday" on his X account, in which John Witherspoon's character asked the question, "How the h*** you gonna get fired on your day off?"

Grete Griffin, the wife of RGIII also responded to the breaking news on social media.

"When a window closes, a door will open," she posted on X.

Other household names to have been let go by ESPN, dating back to last year, include Jeff Van Gundy and Jalen Rose, as the network has been known to make year-to-year budget cuts by parting ways with well-known seven-figure paid TV personalities.

After the 2011 Heisman tropy winner was selected with the second overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, RGIII played seven seasons in the league (2012-2020). He was most remembered for his first couple years in a Redskins jersey, before a devastating injury derailed Griffin's career. To note, when he was a 22-year-old, the promising quarterback star tore his ACL, LCL and meniscus in his right knee during Washington's Wild Card 24-14 loss to the Seahawks.

To point out, the dual threat quarterback won Offensive Rookie of the Year (2012), in addition to being named to a Pro Bowl selection, as he put up 3,200 passing yards, 815 rushing yards, and accumulated 27 total touchdowns during his first season in the pros.
