After weeks of negotiations, the New York Jets are apparently finally closing in on a contract with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

In order to make the numbers work, New York must first open up some cap space, and they're reportedly looking to do so by asking 10-year veteran left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson to take a pay cut of somewhere between $4-5 million, per the New York Daily News.

A model of consistency and with no real options behind Ferguson, it's doubtful the team will release him in order to make the numbers work for Fitzpatrick. The report suggests that Ferguson is open to making the numbers work for the franchise.

Fitzpatrick reportedly turned down a three-year, $21 million deal in early March, and you'd imagine the follow-up offer would be more than the initial.
