Things in San Francisco are bad, folks. Franchise quarterback Colin Kaepernick hasn't played in the preseason, as the reports are that he's dealing with a "dead arm" — which essentially means his throwing arm is fatigued, and he doesn't have much arm strength to work with.

49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, who did not play Sunday night, is dealing with what two sources called “a dead arm.” SF hopes strength back soon.

That was already bad enough, but then things got even worse as Kap's backup — former Buffalo Bills quarterback Thad Lewis — suffered a torn ACL, as reported by Schefter on Monday afternoon. Now, the 49ers are left with just two less-than-ideal candidates to play under center with the season just a few weeks away — Blaine Gabbert and Jeff Driskel. NFL.com went so far as to call the situation in San Fran "the worst quarterback situation in the league." Here's what NFL.com's Adam Schein had to say about Gabbert's performance in the preseason game vs the Houston Texans.
"Besides a 43-yard touchdown pass to Vance McDonald — who was wide open after a defender stumbled, and who did most of the work after the catch — Gabbert was all over the place with his throws. Rumors of this quarterback competition being over are greatly exaggerated."
Yikes. And then there's none other than Jeff Driskel, who the 49ers signed as an undrafted free agent. Driskel had a tumultuous three seasons in Gainesville, Fla. with the Florida Gators, which caused him to transfer to Louisiana Tech for his final year of eligibility, where he was able to flourish. In fact, at the midpoint of the season at La Tech, Driskel threw more TD passes in less than seven games at Tech than he threw in any single full season at Florida
Driskel's 49ers debut however was equally as shaky as Gabbert's outing — he completed just four out of 12 passed for only 20 yards.
Let's hope Kap's arm feels better soon, because things just sound bad under center in San Fran right now.
