For Gabe Taylor, this moment has been a long time coming. And it means everything.

Nearly two decades after the loss of his older brother, Washington legend Sean Taylor, Gabe is now 24 himself and preparing to play his first home game with the D.C. Defenders, as relayed by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
Same age. Same number. Same passion for the game.
Sean Taylor tragically died in 2007 at the age of 24 after being shot during a home invasion in Florida, a loss that shook the entire football world.
Now, years later, his brother is carrying that legacy forward.
Gabe wears No. 21, just like Sean once did. But his path has been his own.
He didn't even start playing football until his senior year of high school. Then everything changed. Eleven interceptions. Six returned for touchdowns. A breakout season that showed what might be possible.
From there, he worked his way to Rice, chasing something bigger than just a roster spot. The NFL didn't come calling. So he kept going.
Now with the Defenders, he's making plays and making a name for himself, including a game-sealing interception just last week.
"This is everything to me," Gabe said. "The legacy... it's bigger than football."
And for fans in D.C., this moment hits a little deeper. Because the name on the back of that jersey still means something.
