Authorities are searching for former NFL defensive back Sergio Brown after discovering the body of his 73-year-old mother, Myrtle Brown, near a creek behind her home in the suburbs of Chicago.

The body was discovered on Sunday, and medical examiners have concluded that she died due to injuries from an assault, and her death has been ruled a homicide. On Monday, police searched the home of Brown, 35, but are still unable to locate him.
Sheila Simmons, Sergio's aunt and Myrtle's sister said she learned about their disappearance on Saturday and noticed things were "out of order" when she visited the residence in Maywood, Illinois, which is just over 10 miles outside of Chicago.
Sergio's brother Nick Brown wrote on Facebook asking for his brother to return, saying, "I want him to know that I love you and please come home," according to the Chicago Tribune.
He then took to Instagram about 22 hours ago at the time of this writing.
"My brother Sergio is still missing," Nick Brown wrote on Instagram. "If anyone knows where he is, I want him to know that I love you, and please come home."
He continued, saying, "It's a sad but hopeful time, and we will all get through this together," Nick Brown wrote online. "Mom always told me, 'tough times don't last' and our last conversation about tough times being temporary is my beacon of hope."
"Mom, thank you for being strong, caring, diligent, fancy, funny, and for saving my art. I won't let you down," Nick Brown continued, on social media.
While the police are searching for the seven-year NFL veteran, they have not yet named any suspects in Myrtle's death.
"Myrtle, she was an outstanding woman, and I'm hoping she's in the right place and she's with God," Carlos Cortez, Myrtle Brown's next-door neighbor, said. "I never would've expected this in a million years."
Sergio played college football at Notre Dame. He went undrafted in 2010 but signed with the New England Patriots, where he played for two seasons. He then continued his career with the Indianapolis Colts (2012-2014), Jacksonville Jaguars (2015), and Buffalo Bills (2016). He hasn't played since he was 28 years old.
