Shedeur Sanders hype rolls on, but at least he's not miming anymore

Shedeur Sanders has found his voice again. After last week's bizarre silent treatment in the Browns locker room, the rookie quarterback actually answered questions on Tuesday. And not at team headquarters, but at a local car dealership. Because of course.

Ohio's Fox affiliate caught up with Sanders shortly after news broke that Cleveland had traded Joe Flacco to the Bengals. Instead of pitching SUVs, Sanders was asked about his new role as the Browns' backup.

"He was definitely somebody I leaned on for wisdom, and I feel he helped me a lot," Sanders told John Sabol of Fox 8. "He helped me a lot in my time being here in Cleveland and his time being here in Cleveland. Everybody has their own destinies and have their own plans...I'm just happy for him."

Sanders said he spoke to Flacco after the trade. "I told him, dang that happened quick," he said. "That was crazy."

Asked what he learned from Flacco, Sanders called the veteran "a person that adjusts to any situation he's in." He added, "He's an old man, so it's funny though...I always bring the youngness out of him, and he always smiles at the funny things I do...overall because he understands where I'm at right now."

The setting might have been strange, but the comments were at least coherent — which is more than could be said for last week's mime act.

Still, it highlights something odd about the Browns' QB circus. Sanders is currently the No. 2 behind rookie starter Dillon Gabriel. There are 31 other backup quarterbacks in the NFL, and none of them are interviewed this often.

The coverage frenzy isn't really about depth charts or football. It's about clicks, hype, and a rookie with a famous last name who's already undoubtedly the most talked-about backup in football history. That's no one's fault. It's just the sports and entertainment world in which we now live.
