State Farm Cancels Super Bowl Commercials Due To Backlash From LA Wildfires Controversy

State Farm insurance company is often times seen on commercials of NFL games with player actors, such as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and in the past Aaron Rodgers, appearing in the TV ads. However, during this year's Super Bowl on February 9, evidently they will not be running any advertisements.

That is, as of now State Farm is amid a public relations nightmare with the Los Angeles wildfires.

Reportedly, the backlash is due to the company not renewing 72,000+ property owners due to fire risk in California.

To note, 69% of State Farm homeowners' insurance policies in Pacific Palisades (most heavily affected area) were not renewed prior to the fires.

A State Farm spokesperson told the New York Post, that they will not run a commercial during this year's Super Bowl as a way to focus on the devastation in the LA area.

"Our focus is firmly on providing support to the people of Los Angeles. We will not be advertising during the game as originally planned," the spokesperson said.

In view of how much a 30-second commercial would cost for the 2025 Super Bowl, it is estimated to be around $7 million.

"State Farm, State Farm agents, and our employees are all focused on helping customers impacted by the Southern California wildfires in the midst of this tragedy," the statement read. "State Farm serves more 8 million customers in California - more than any other insurer - and we've been doing this for nearly 100 years. Our claims force is the largest in the industry and we are bringing the full scale and force of our catastrophe response teams to help customers recover - whether they are on the ground in LA or across the country."

The company says the numbers will increase as the damage is assessed, but as of now they have received over 7,400 home and auto claims, which correlates to "putting tens of millions of dollars back into customers' hands."

To note, the wildfires have also affected the sports world, as the LA Rams vs. Minnesota Vikings game was rescheduled to take place in the Arizona Cardinals home stadium, which just so happens to be called 'State Farm' Stadium.
