Thompson, who is currently on injured reserve, suffered minor injuries in the incident but is OK and remains with the team. He was seen on the field in street clothes ahead of Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings at Croke Park.
The Steelers had landed in Ireland on Friday morning for the international matchup. The team held a light afternoon workout from 1 to 3 p.m. local time before players were given a brief window to explore the city.
"We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin," Steelers spokesperson Burt Lauten said in a statement. "We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident."
Details of the robbery have not been made public, but Thompson's quick return to the team is a positive sign after a potentially dangerous situation.
The third-string quarterback joined Pittsburgh earlier this year after previous stints with the Miami Dolphins. While he isn't expected to play this season, Thompson has remained around the team during his recovery.
Sunday's game at Croke Park is part of the NFL's continued push to grow its international presence. The league has staged regular-season games in London and Germany, but this marks the first time an NFL game was played in Ireland.
The Steelers won the game by a 24-21 count.
