Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon is currently awaiting reinstatement from the NFL following a year-long suspension and if he receives the green light, the Browns organization will look at retaining the troubled wide out.
Sashi Brown, Cleveland's executive vice president of football operations said that Gordon is in the teams plans, though no ruling has come down from the league office and no timetable has been set for when a ruling can be expected.
"Josh has made mistakes but he's been accountable for them," Brown said. "If he gets back [in the league], there's a spot on the roster for him.
"He's serious about wanting to be a pro, so if he's done things to clean up his past, we would welcome him back."
Gordon is serving a one-year suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy after testing positive for alcohol following a drunk driving incident.
This is in stark contrast to another Browns star with troubled past (and present). The Browns have all but moved on from second-year quarterback Johnny Manziel, after his latest off field incident has been referred to a grand jury in a domestic violence case.
Coach Hue Jackson has gone on record about Manziel's actions, saying that his "behavior will not be tolerated."
Gordon, a second round supplemental draft choice in 2013, led the NFL in receiving yards in 2013, even after missing the first two games due to suspension.
Manziel has yet to achieve similar success at his position, having completed 57 percent of his passes for 1,675 yards and seven touchdowns (against seven interceptions) in 14 games played.
