The Cowboys essentially exhausted every option this offseason to get their next "quarterback of the future". While Tony Romo is still there, his injury issues and age (35) have advanced to the point where Dallas owner Jerry Jones knows that the team needs to find a replacement in the coming years.
After failing to get a quarterback in the first few couple of the 2016 NFL Draft and after failing to trade for an effective veteran backup, it looks like the Cowboys may have finally found their guy: former Mississippi State quarterback and fourth-round pick Dak Prescott.
After impressing in his preseason debut a week ago, Prescott followed that up on Friday night with another great performance; 12-for-15 passing for 199 yards and four total (two rushing) touchdowns.

Obviously this is preseason and there are going to be limits on what a "great" performance means. However, after his star seems to fall in his last year at Mississippi State, Prescott has found a groove in Dallas. He's been an accurate passer with great presence in the pocket, and he has the ability to extend plays and make moves with his feet.
Prescott is far from starting for the Cowboys. Tony Romo returned to the football field last night, and he also looked good in his limited time. However, after all the searching the Cowboys made for another quarterback, it looks like they may have found a gem. At the very least, they have a quarterback that they call fell comfortable grooming over the next few seasons as Romo winds down his career.
