The incident occurred as Dan Patrick took a call from a sports fan. As the fan started to express his opinion about the pressing topics, the fire alarm sounded. This caught Patrick by surprise, especially as Eric Jones "The Big German" rushed into action.

The Big German, who is a certified firefighter and EMS, shut down the alarm. He then headed into Patrick's side of the studio to investigate further. The show went to break and upon its return, Patrick revealed how he had caused the incident.

"Ok, so I have this candle, and I'll light incense in this mornings," Patrick said. "Just kind of set the mood for the show. And I forgot to blow out the incense when I lit it, and there were a lot of pieces of previous incense sticks in the candle.

"It burned down and then it lit the other stems of the incense and then all of a sudden, it got so hot it shattered the glass. And then there were flames that were probably close to a foot and a half (high)."

Executive producer of the show Todd Fritz asked the important question after the crisis. He wanted to know if Patrick had any important mementos, credentials, or memorabilia in the part of the officer where the fire occurred.

Did the show lose any important artifacts? The answer is no. Patrick had cleared some space, so he did not lose anything in the small fire.

While the small fire forced the show to go to a break, it did not end the episode. Patrick and his cohorts continued to talk about the pressing topics in the sports world. The veteran broadcaster just had to deal with some extra lingering smoke in his part of the studio.
