Offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil was drafted in the first round on Thursday, which is because he should be a phenomenal player at the NFL-level. However, he lost a lot of money due to a video — which appeared to show Tunsil smoking marijuana — that was posted to Twitter shortly before the draft.
Tunsil fell all the way to the Dolphins at 13, and it now appears that the Dolphins know who leaked the video that caused Tunsil to fall that far.
If this is true, then the pieces of this story's puzzle would start to come together in a more logical manner. If it is a former financial advisor, then they clearly lost a lot of money whenever Tunsil cut ties with them. The leak right before the Draft, combined with the leaking of personal messages relating to money and finances, support someone specifically trying to hurt Tunsil's wallet as well.
Deadspin is also reporting that someone tried to sell them the video anonymously up to three weeks before the Draft. While they are unsure of the identity of the person, this shows that the leak was clearly in the works for several weeks at least leading up to Thursday.
Furthermore, Tunsil's stepfather has denied involvement in the leak. Both he and Tunsil were arrested for an alleged altercation last year, and a lot of people pointed fingers at him as someone potentially holding a grudge over the former Ole Miss offensive lineman.
Tunsil and his team are in clean up mode for now, but this situation is far from over. Hopefully we learn the identity of whoever leaked all of this stuff, because there is no reason for this to be happening to Tunsil right now.
