The door is now open for Ryan Fitzpatrick to land here at the cost of a 3-time Pro Bowler

A day after reports circulated regarding the New York Jets opening up cap space to sign Ryan Fitzpatrick, veteran left tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson officially retired.

While this certainly opens the door for a Fitzpatrick return, it leaves a gaping hole at left tackle.

Ferguson spent 10 seasons in the NFL, all with the Jets, playing in 10,707 out of 10,708 possible snaps over 170 career games.

New York will save more than $9 million in cap after the No. 4 overall selection from the 2006 NFL Draft decided to hang them up.

Left tackle just became arguably the Jets' biggest need when the draft rolls around at the end of April.
