The New York Jets and Ryan Fitzpatrick are at quite the impasse. Fitzpatrick, a free agent, would love to return to New York where he enjoyed the best year of his 12-year career while leading the Jets to 10-6 record and second place finish in the AFC East.

That's not enough for the Jets though, as the reported contract they've offered Fitzpatrick proves he's being low-balled.
New York reportedly offered a contract that would pay out around $12 million annually. That sounds fantastic to you and I, but according to Spotrac, there are 16 starting NFL quarterbacks who average more than $18 million annually. That means half of the league's starters are making 50 percent more than Fitzpatrick would.
Another six make less than $18 million, but more than the $12 million Fitz was offered. That's 22 quarterbacks making more than Ryan would. That's hardly marketplace value for a quarterback who threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 31 touchdowns.
And, it makes the Jets look sleazy for leaking the info, and then cheap with the offer.
