Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers better pray that Ben Roethlisberger never has to see a bench in 2016 because if he does, all hell is certain to break loose with their backup quarterback.
Landry Jones, who is firmly entrenched as the No. 2 quarterback on the Steelers' depth chart, imploded in the Steelers second preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
After the first two quarters, Jones finished 12-of-20 for 111 yards and four—count them—four interceptions. Jones is currently 18-of-32 for 166 yards, one touchdown and four picks in six quarters for Pittsburgh. What's more shocking than the interceptions is Jones' reaction to them.
"You have to let it rip," Jones said after the 17-0 loss. "I would rather play aggressive than hold back and play scared."
Who was Jones' backup? Second-year quarterback Dustin Vaughan, who has been on three teams in his very short career. It's no wonder Roethlisberger has barely seen the field, in practice or otherwise—no reason to take unnecessary risks.
