Colin Kaepernick is a quarterback that has yet to be signed in free agency at the age of 29 who has a Super Bowl appearance under his belt. He wasn't a do-nothing QB for that run either and that has people wondering why guys like Brian Hoyer, Mark Sanchez and Josh McCown have found jobs already while Kaepernick is still waiting around for the call.
Of course, there might be something about his national anthem protests that have turned teams off and it would seem that is the sole reason he hasn't been signed yet. NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks talked to several NFL executives about why they think Kaepernick hasn't been signed yet and they all basically said that he is good enough to play —- some say as a starter, a couple as a second option —- but the protests are what did him in.
This particular quote came from a former GM:
"He is a talented player and a heck of an athlete. Accuracy will always be an issue, but he can definitely play in this league. ... I think people forget that he has led a team to a Super Bowl as a starting quarterback. That's not an easy feat. Also, I don't think he is a bad guy based on the way his teammates have responded to him. They appear to love the guy."
If a player can get his teammates to like him and he has the talent to play the position, then why can't he get signed? It would seem the answer is because of the political landscape we live in currently.
