Zach Mettenberger was a surprise casualty on the Tennessee Titans roster Monday morning, signaling the end of his two-year stint.
After landing him in the sixth round, the Titans had a decent trade chip in Mettenberger, who paired his big arm with a decent outlook as a potential future starter.
Mettenberger and his $62k deal will go through the waiver wire where one team will certainly snag him.
In a quarterback-light market, here are the squads to look for.
Cleveland Browns
With Robert Griffin III on the roster and his unsteady legs and unproven Cody Kessler out of USC, the Cleveland Browns are still looking for a franchise quarterback. The 6'5" Mettenberger has shown he can do a decent job with little talent around him and a weak offensive line, and he'd certainly be worth a flyer.
New York Jets
Geno Smith isn't the option, Ryan Fitzpatrick is still holding out for a solid contract and Christan Hackenberg is just another rookie trying to learn the ropes. It certainly wouldn't hurt to bring in Mettenberger as at the very least another camp arm.
Denver Broncos
Denver traded up for Paxton Lynch, has Mark Sanchez, but the Broncos clearly are stuck trying to figure out the quarterback position. Mettenberger alongside the Broncos standout receivers could make for huge plays down the line.
San Diego Chargers
Ken Whisenhunt drafted Mettenberger, was a big fan of his arm and could want a second crack at the third-year quarterback. Phillip Rivers isn't going to be around forever, and Mettshow could be the waiting-in-the -wings clipboard holder for the Chargers. Mettenberger is still just 24 years old, after all.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Another aging quarterback in Ben Roethlisberger needs a young backup, and Mettenberger fits that mold. He's still got plenty to learn and who better to sit behind than Big Ben?
