Former Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte will hit the free agent market this offseason.
Despite some injury issues, the 30-year-old running back rushed for nearly 900 yards in 13 games and had about 400 through the air. He's got plenty left in the tank and he'll likely look for a contender to play with next season.
Here are three possible fits:
New England Patriots
Faced with all kinds of injury issues, the Patriots rotated in Dion Lewis, Steven Jackson, LeGarrette Blount, Brandon Bolden and James White at running back.
Forte can do it all — run, block and catch. He would be an ideal fit for the Patriots and could be a difference-maker when it comes to options in the passing game, an area New England sorely lacked throughout the season.
Dallas Cowboys
What better option behind the stout offensive line than the former Pro Bowler, a running back that can be a serious passing threat out of the backfield.
Darren McFadden meshed nicely in limited action, running for over 1,000 yards. But he certainly didn't provide the jolt Lance Dunbar did out of the backfield before injuring his knee and being out for the year.
Forte could be the suitable replacement the Cowboys searched for after letting DeMarco Murray walk in free agency last year.
Oakland Raiders
An up-and-coming squad that appears just on the cusp of being a playoff team, the Raiders put together a 7-9 season behind stars in the making Khalil Mack, Derek Carr and Amari Cooper.
Running back Latavius Murray ran for just over 1,000 yards, but Forte would provide another wrinkle to an electric offense.
