Shedeur Sanders just got a fresh dose of NFL reality from Tim Hasselbeck.

The ESPN analyst didn't sugarcoat his thoughts on the Browns quarterback during an appearance on Get Up. When asked if Cleveland should build around Sanders in 2026, Hasselbeck shut it down fast.
"They won't, and that's just the reality of it," Hasselbeck said. "I don't even think he enters training camp as the second guy on the roster."
Hasselbeck said Sanders will probably be around because he's still on his rookie deal, but expects the Browns to bring in someone with legit starting experience to compete. He also didn't sound convinced Sanders is even backup material.
"Most guys, including Todd Monken, aren't going to try to win with somebody like Shedeur," Hasselbeck added.
Tim Hasselbeck a career backup QB was talking reckless about Shedeur. Damien Woody was talking crazy too. He was quiet went Rex Ryan was talking bad about Shedeur a while back. Jeff Saturday was the only solid one 💯. Talking about a young rookie is Crazy Nasty Wild Work. pic.twitter.com/qF5QmxfvJH

That comment had Sanders' fans fired up, including ESPN Cleveland's Tony Rizzo, who fired back during Thursday's episode of The Really Big Show. The clip of Hasselbeck's remarks made the rounds quickly, and Sanders Nation didn't take it lightly.
Monken, for his part, has publicly praised Sanders in the past. When he was running the Ravens offense, Baltimore reportedly tried to draft Shedeur before the Browns landed him.

But Monken stopped short of committing to Sanders as his starter during his intro press conference in Cleveland.
Sanders' rookie season was a mixed bag. He flashed moments of promise but also had some of the worst stats among starting quarterbacks over his seven games. Even so, he earned a spot as a Pro Bowl Games alternate and has plenty of believers.
Now entering Year 2, the pressure is on. And if Hasselbeck is right, Sanders will have to fight just to stay on the depth chart, let alone the field.
