Tom Brady takes aim at Daniel Jones' release request

Tom Brady did not like Daniel Jones's request to be released from the New York Giants, and he made this clear Thursday while calling a Thanksgiving game for Fox Sports.

The quarterback-turned-broadcaster weighed in on Jones' whirlwind few weeks that included losing the starting job, playing scout team safety, requesting a release, and signing with the Vikings practice squad. As Brady explained, he would have handled the situation differently.

"To think that you would ask for release from a team that committed a lot to you is maybe different than I would have handled that," Brady said. "I always felt I wanted to get the trust and respect of my teammates regardless of situation knowing that I was trying to be the best I could for the team because that was the most important thing."

Brady continued and said that players face different challenges at points of their careers and that he faced some while he was attending the University of Michigan. He then said that he didn't care if they asked him to be scout team safety.

"I was going to do whatever I could to help the team win," he said.

Brady has his supporters and detractors alike, so his comments generated a wide variety of responses. Some fans said that the seven-time champion was correct in his assessment of the situation and that there is more to the story than the Giants simply benching Jones.

Other football fans, however, strongly disagreed with Brady. They said that he had never been benched in his NFL career, which he spent with the Patriots and Buccaneers. These fans also called the Giants "dysfunctional."

Regardless of how the situation unfolded, the Giants and Jones each have to live with their respective decisions. For Jones, his release led to a spot on the Vikings' practice squad. He will work with head coach Kevin O'Connell and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown while continuing his career in a different way.

The Giants will continue to struggle through another losing season. A loss to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving in which backup quarterback Drew Lock turned the ball over multiple times dropped the team to 2-10 on the season.
