A Denver Broncos decision could come back to haunt them, and it’s all John Elway’s fault

This would have been a better choice.

The Denver Broncos were reportedly interested in signing former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, according to NFL Network's James Palmer. However, Hall of Fame quarterback and current GM John Elway decided against it, instead focusing on the younger QBs already at his disposal.

Denver currently has four quarterbacks listed on its active roster, none of which have more than three years of NFL experience.

Trevor Siemian, who started 14 games last season and Paxton Lynch, who was selected in the first-round of last year's draft and made two starts, are reportedly in a tight QB race for the starting job, according to USA Today.

Simian threw for 3,401 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions during the 2017 season. Lynch was limited to what USA Today described as a "redshirt year," and could pose a legitimate threat to take the job before the season kicks off.

The Broncos also drafted Northern Colorado's Kyle Sloter and Ole Miss' Chad Kelly — selected with the Mr. Irrelevant pick — during the 2017 NFL Draft.

Kelly, who led the SEC in passing yards in 2015, has been marred with off-field problems and injuries, but Elway said he received confirmation that he was a "good kid" from his uncle, Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Romo, on the other hand, retired this offseason and joined CBS as a color commentator.
