Winston remained at home for the NFL Draft instead of attending the event live, sitting next to his grandmother, Myrtle Winston, when his name was announced.
Winston's grandmother suffered from diabetes, leading the former Heisman winner to become involved in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Program.
Winston said his first purchase as a pro was to buy her a $4,000 recliner.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Winston and his family.
Winston is 15-17 in two years as the Buccaneers' starter, throwing for more than 8,000 yards, 50 touchdowns and 33 interceptions.
