Travis Kelce asked Chiefs to skip the Taylor Swift songs, and they listened

Travis Kelce had one simple request for the Kansas City Chiefs when his relationship with Taylor Swift took off, and it had nothing to do with play calls or practice time. He just wanted the team to keep things normal.

Chiefs president Mark Donovan revealed on FanDuel's "Up and Adams" that Kelce asked the organization not to play Swift's music during games while she was in the building. The goal was to avoid turning Sunday afternoons into a sideshow.

According to Donovan, Kelce told the team that highlighting Swift during games would make him feel separate from the rest of the locker room. He wanted the focus to stay on football and the people in the huddle with him.

Kansas City followed through. When Swift attended games, her songs stayed off the stadium playlist. The team also refrained from showing her on the Arrowhead video boards, even as TV broadcasts made her a central part of their coverage.

"It was respectful," Donovan said. "We weren't going to take advantage of the relationship."

Kelce went on to win his third Super Bowl ring during the 2024 season, and he and Swift are still together today. She has her own ring now too, after Kelce proposed in August.

So far, the approach seems to have worked for everyone involved.

That said, the Chiefs are struggling to the tune of a 6-6 record and are in danger of missing the playoffs altogether. As for Kelce, his own performance has clearly declined. Some have even speculated this could be his final NFL season.
