Plans for a 6-foot black aluminum fence at the couple's lakeside property in Bratenahl drew objections involving an aging sewer line, new trees and neighborhood deer.
Cleveland.com first reported the dispute and the Architectural Review Board's approval of the fence. TMZ subsequently obtained a transcript detailing residents' concerns.
Representatives working on the project said the fence would sit approximately 2 feet inside the property line to avoid sewer infrastructure. The plans also include planting trees.
Neighbor Katherine Bolton questioned whether those trees would be far enough from an old, deteriorating sewer line, according to TMZ's account of the meeting.
She also raised the possibility that the property's owner might not remain there long term.
"This applicant may decide to sell her house next year, move on and buy another house," Bolton said.
Other residents expressed concern about deer in the neighborhood, including the possibility that an animal could become impaled on a fence post.
The objections put practical neighborhood questions alongside the couple's desire for privacy. The board approved the fence, but the meeting made clear that residents wanted the project's potential effects addressed.
For two people accustomed to stadium crowds and constant attention, even a privacy fence has become a public discussion.
